Elissa Diane Giambastiani Mrs. Elissa Diane Giambastiani died of cancer on Sunday, December 16, 2012. She was 73. Elissa Giambastiani was born Elissa Diane Frillici on May 4, 1939 in Gilbert, Minnesota. She attended the University of Minnesota, Duluth from 1957-1961 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English/Speech Therapy. After college she worked in Gilbert as a teacher from 1961 to 1962 before taking a teaching job with the U.S. Army in Germany. Upon her return in 1964 she moved to San Francisco where she worked at Walter Landor & Associates, an industrial design firm, with offices aboard the docked ferry boat "The Klamath" at Pier 5. There she met her husband, Ronald A. Giambastiani, a resident of San Rafael. The two were married June 26, 1965 at Mission San Rafael and honeymooned in Puerto Vallarta. While raising a family in the late 1960s-early 1980s, Elissa worked part-time in various businesses. She served as an independent public relations consultant and marketing director for the Marin Ballet and worked at the Social Action Research Center before joining the San Rafael Chamber of Commerce in 1987. As President and CEO, Elissa helped establish the Marin Workforce Housing Trust and earned the San Rafael Chamber an Advocacy Chamber of the Year Award in 2003. Elissa received numerous awards during her tenure at the Chamber and retired in 2005 after 18 years of service. Elissa was active in many different community organizations, including the San Rafael Rotary. She loved to sing and play piano, and she shared her love of music with all her family. She was an avid reader; loved to discuss politics; and enjoyed traveling and being outdoors. She studied Italian and enjoyed cooking, sewing, and restoring antique furniture. Elissa loved the holiday season and, most of all, enjoyed spending time with her family. Elissa is survived by husband Ronald Giambastiani of San Rafael; brother Richard Frillici of Ellenton, Florida; daughter Lisa Giambastiani of Woodland, California; sons Kurt Giambastiani of Shoreline, Washington; David Giambastiani of Novato, California; and Mark Giambastiani of Reno, Nevada; and granddaughters Francesca of Novato, California, and Amelia of Reno, Nevada. The family has planned a Mass and Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 26, 2013. The Mass will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Church of Saint Raphael, 1104 Fifth Avenue, San Rafael, and the Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 PM at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 101 McInnis Parkway, San Rafael.
