George Edward "Duke" Mitchell Obituary
George "Duke" Edward Mitchell Sept. 27, 1925-June 13, 2014 Duke passed away peacefully in Novato at the age of 88. He was born in Chicago, Il and raised in Cincinnati, OH. He entered the Army in 1944 joining the 100th infantry div. in France, where he received a Bronze Star. In 1946 he returned to the USA and attended the Univ. of Cincinnati. In 1950 he moved to CA with his wife Ann Mitchell and raised three children Jennifer, Lane (Karen) and Nancy (Hugh). He worked as a General Contractor, and subsequently entered Mortgage Banking. In 1972 he married the love of his life Marjorie Chase and they raised her five children, Julie (Donnie), Greg (Shauna), Brian, Chris (Tatiana ), and Rob (Kim). He served on the boards of Marin CASA, Marin Academy, and Marin General Hospital Bldg. Committee. He passionately volunteered with the San Rafael Police Dept., San Quentin and helped develop Boy Scout Troop 2000. Duke loved riding his horse Breezy, playing tennis, cooking - his motto "Life is uncertain, eat desert first", entertaining, dancing, gardening and attending his children's and grandchildren events. He was predeceased by his loving wife Marjorie in 2009. He is survived by his sister Jacqueline Winslow, eight children, 16 grandchildren, two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. A memorial mass will be held June 24th 11:00 AM at St. Anselms Catholic Church in Ross, CA. Interment following at Mt Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
