Ian Stewart Gibson Obituary
Ian Stewart Gibson Passed away at home on June 28 surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with cancer. Born October 2, 1965, in Ayr, Scotland, to William Stewart and Jane Gibson, he grew up in Greece, Dubai, Kenya, and the U.S. He attended Phillips Exeter Academy and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a BA in History from Harvard University in 1988. Additionally, he studied Scottish history for a year at University of Edinburgh. He was a world traveler, serving for a year as Editor of the Harvard Let's Go travel guides, and later spent two decades, in London, in development banking, working on five continents, primarily in Eastern Europe and Russia. He moved with his family to Mill Valley in 2007. He was a devoted father to Sylvia Rose Gibson and Samuel Calder Gibson. He married his love, Felice Chang of San Jose, in December 2013. He loved to prepare bountiful meals for family and friends and he read zealously, especially current affairs and fiction. Passionate about the outdoors, he was a master gardner and enjoyed hiking and camping. He is also survived by his parents, his sister, Angela, and her husband, Chris Eddleman, his wife and her children; Brandon and Joe. A celebration of Ian's life will be held July 20 in his garden in Mill Valley. A private dedication of a bench in his honor at Slide Ranch will be held later.
