John Ernest Nicholson Obituary
John Ernest Nicholson Nov .3 1931 - Mar. 28, 2014. John Nicholson passed away on March 28 at the age of 82, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Mr. Nicholson was born in Taft, CA, a graduate of UCLA and of Columbia University and a U.S. Army veteran. He began teaching in Los Angeles at Pasteur Junior High and Hamilton High School, before moving to Mill Valley and joining the Tamalpais High School faculty in 1967, where he taught in the English Department for 25 years. After retiring in 1992, Mr. Nicholson worked as a consultant and did volunteer work, including counseling homeless people at the Episcopal Community Services center in San Francisco. He was an accomplished pianist, gardener, chef and baker. One of his greatest joys was traveling with his wife Maggi: together, they visited Europe over a dozen times, with almost every trip including time in the French Basque country and Paris. He is survived by Maggi, his wife of 47 years; two sons, Peter L. Nicholson of Mill Valley, and John E.D. (Jed) Nicholson of Templeton (San Luis Obispo County); and five grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. April 26 at the Church of Our Saviour, 10 Old Mill St., Mill Valley. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Episcopal Charities
