Jon Summers Wells Obituary
Jon Summers Wells Jon passed away on May 25, 2013, one week before his 67th birthday, surrounded by family and friends after a courageous battle with cancer. Jon was born in Berwyn, Illinois and relocated to California at an early age. Growing up in Costa Mesa and enjoying the early surfing scene, Jon moved to the bay area where he attended and graduated from San Jose State University. Immediately after graduation, Jon (a Peace Corps candidate) was drafted into the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, Jon embarked on a very successful career as a commercial designer, creating visual branding and advertising for Fortune 500 companies, but he always felt his most important work was for charities and people in need, anywhere. Shortly after 9/11, Jon was inspired to return to military service and reached the rank of Major in the California State Military Reserve, training troops deploying to Iraq and Afghanistan. In the last year of his life, Jon wrote and published a novel about Vietnam called "He Died All Day Long", a project he had nurtured for years and brought to fruition during the course of his illness. Jon is survived by his wife Evelyn, stepson Alex, brother Richard, sisters-in-law Carol, Nancy and Roberta, brother-in-law Michael, cousins, nephews, nieces and a large circle of deeply saddened friends. There will be a celebration of Jon's life on June 30th from 2:00 to 5:00 in the Cascade Room of the Mill Valley Community Center. In lieu of flowers, a contribution in Jon's name to Siempre Unidos is suggested (please donate online (http://siempreunidos.org/our_donors/) or mail to Siempre Unidos, 1001 Smith Rd., Mill Valley, CA 94941).
