Liana Sherrine Day-Williams Obituary
Liana Sherrine Day-Williams 7/18/1963 - 7/27/2013 Liana Day-Williams of San Rafael died the week following her 50th birthday after a brave 10-month battle with lymphoma. She was a very beautiful person, with a warm, radiant smile that matched her intelligence, kindness and capacity for love. An adored mother and wife, a dearly beloved daughter and sister, Liana was a marriage and family therapist who specialized in the care of children. Born July 18, 1963, Liana grew up primarily in Oakland and Albany, California, with her mother, and spent several summers in Moose Junction, Wisconsin, with her father. Her mother and father were 15 and 18 years old respectively at her birth and separated when she was two years old, yet Liana remained very close to both until her passing. Nicknamed "Happy" by her childhood friends for her unshakably positive outlook, she was known by all for her good nature, fierce loyalty and grace. She attended College of Alameda, UC Berkeley and John F. Kennedy University, earning her MA in Counseling Psychology from JFKU in 1998. She proudly became a licensed MFT in 2001 and maintained a private practice in San Rafael for several years. She met her husband Chase Williams while working at the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Novato in 1992. Liana loved theater and history, and worked at the Faire for many years. She married Chase in 1997 after proposing to him on New Year's Eve. Their shared love of the works of Shakespeare, as well as exploring nature with their children, bound them together as soul mates. Liana's two wonderful children, Brandon (10) and Sabine (8), were enveloped in her love and good values. They are her true legacy. In addition to her own children, her life's work was to help young children heal from trauma. At the time of her death she was Treatment Program Coordinator at STAND! For Families Free of Violence, of Contra Costa County. Liana carried the Olympic Torch through San Rafael in 2002 after being nominated by her mother for her work with children. She was preceded in death by one month by her father Frank L. Day of Montana. She is survived by Chase, Sabine and Brandon, all of San Rafael; mother, poet Lucille Lang Day, and her husband Richard M. Levine, of Oakland; step-mother Chris Day, brother Steven Day and his wife Julie, all of Montana; sister Tamarind Fleischman Pease and her husband Phillip, both of Oakland; a niece and many nephews. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at Falkirk Cultural Center in San Rafael in September. Friends are encouraged to contact the family at daywilliams@earthlink.net for details. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of Liana may be made to STAND! for Families Free of Violence, 1410 Danzig Plaza, Suite 200, Concord, CA 94520.
