Mary Cox Ryckman Obituary
Mary Cox Ryckman Mother of Mervin and Mark Giacomini, aged 97, died peacefully early Tuesday, February 5, 2013. Mary was born January 22, 1916 in Dunsmuir, CA, Siskiyou County, the youngest of three siblings of parents Clarence and Halcyon Cox, who were descended from early Humboldt County families. After her schooling at Hydesville Elementary School and Fortuna Union High School in Humboldt County, Mary married Mervin A. Giacomini. Mary worked at the State of California Developmental Hospitals at Talmage and in Sonoma County as a Psychiatric Technician, where she remained for the span of her career. She initially retired to Guadalajara, Mexico for seven years with her new husband Fred Ryckman, but returned to Sonoma. Mary went back to work until she retired at the age of 72. After Fred's death, Mary lived independently, and enjoyed traveling, and spending cherished time with friends and family, well into her 90's. She lived for 5 years in an attached studio at her son Mervin's house in Novato where she received loving care. Mary is remembered by her brother Bill Cox and his wife Mickey; sons Mervin and Mark, and their wives Gail and Mary Jane; grandchildren Laura, Angela, Vincent and Anna Giacomini and Melanie Giacomini Wiseman, Dean and LaVonne Giacomini. She also leaves eleven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Mary treasured her friends and leaves her dear friends Roseann Rappoport, Janet Siela, and Lynda Bryan of Sonoma, and Edna Black of Texas. We want to acknowledge the compassionate and kind staff of Creekwood Senior Home in Novato, Hospice by the Bay, Jewish Family and Children's Services, and Seniors at Home.
