UPPER SANDUSKY: Byron F. "Barney" Richardson, age 87, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2013 at the Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.

Barney was born on March 9, 1926 in Upper Sandusky to Norman and Gladys (Outhwaite) Richardson, both of whom are deceased. He married Thelma Predmore on March 27, 1944 in Forest, Ohio, and she survives.

Surviving are five children; Barbara (John) Curlis of Upper Sandusky, Byron F. "Fred' Richardson, Jr., of Marion, Kathy (Richard) Summit of Upper Sandusky, Pam (Pete) Haff of Upper Sandusky, and Robin (Bob) Spoors of Findlay; he is also survived by nine grandchildren, Leslie Lohr, Kristin Widun, Heather Albanese, Ryan Summit, Amanda Griveas, Melissa Bowersock, Bart Summit, Emily Rieser, Mary Richardson and 1 step grandchild, Matt Spoors; and eight great- grandchildren, Bailey and Dylan Lohr, Elizabeth and Ethan Widun, Olivia and Nicholas Albanese, Lila Griveas, Sasha Summit; along with two step-great grandchildren, Luke and Kendal Spoors.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Kenneth Richardson.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy having served aboard the U.S.S. Roi in the Pacific during World War II. Before and after the service, Barney worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad until 1958, it was then that he started working for the city of Upper Sandusky.

Barney retired as the Superintendent of Services for the City of Upper Sandusky retiring after many years of service. After retirement he continued to serve the city as a member of the Service Committee for 16 years. During his off hours Barney owned and operated Barney's Landscaping in Upper Sandusky for over 20 years.

He was a long time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Upper Sandusky, where he served at one time as a deacon and elder of the church. He was a life member of the American Legion Post #225, and the VFW Post #2842, and a member of the Amvets #777, all in Upper Sandusky and also was a life member of the American Water Works Association. For hobbies, Barney loved to be outside working around the house, whether mowing or tending to his garden. He was an avid Cleveland Browns and OSU Buckeye fan. And for many years he enjoyed supporting his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in their many school activities.

Funeral services for Byron F. "Barney" Richardson will be held at 11:00am Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Kenneth Wessler officiating. Burial will follow at Old Mission Cemetery, where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Upper Sandusky Color Guard. Visitations will be held on Tuesday, November 12, from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky.
