Gerald (Jerry) Corbin

PHOENIX, AZ: Gerald (Jerry) Corbin, age 66, formerly of Mount Gilead, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly September 27th, 2012 at his home in Phoenix, AZ. Jerry was born on August 11, 1946 in Marion, Ohio to Jack and the late Frances (Sheets) Corbin of Mount Gilead.

Jerry was a 1964 graduate of Mount Gilead High School. He graduated from Defiance College with a Bachelors of Science degree in Physics and Chemistry. After a short stint teaching high school math, Jerry enlisted in the Air Force in the Officer's Training Program, earning the rank of Second Lieutenant after completion. While in the Air Force, Jerry qualified to enter into Pilot's Candidate Training School. Later Jerry was one of the few chosen to work for the Strategic Air Command, (SAC) working down in the MINUTEMAN MISSLE Silos in Minot, North Dakota. He was promoted to the rank of First Lieutenant prior to his honorable discharge from the Air Force in 1974.

Jerry graduated fromThe Ohio State University in 1976 with a Master's Degree in Business Administration (MBA). He moved to Texas, working for Texas Instruments for 1977-1984. Jerry relocated to California, working for Toshiba from 1984-1991 and then Microchip Technology in Chandler, Arizona from 1992-1998. Jerry recently retired from GoDaddy.com in Phoenix.

Jerry was always inquisitive, enjoyed learning new things. He was receptive to new ideas and the latest technologies. He was especially interested in Science Technology, particularly Artificial Intelligence, and anything involving computers. Jerry kept up on current events, never turning away from engaging in a friendly debate. He could be spontaneous and had a good sense of humor. Jerry was curious about people and trends, this curiosity led him to become a very active member of Mensa for many years. He was interested in sports. He enjoyed watching his alma mater-Ohio State play football and basketball. Earlier in his life, Jerry was a competitive tennis player, winning numerous tournaments.

Jerry is survived by his father, Jack Corbin, of Mount Gilead; sisters, Carol Corbin of Mount Gilead, and Janet (John) Stemmer of Louisville, Kentucky; niece, Claire Stemmer; stepbrothers, Monty (Francie) LaRue of Seattle, Washington, Kevin (Amy) LaRue of Kalamazoo, Michigan; and many nieces and nephews.

Including his mother, Frances, Jerry was preceded in death by his step-mother, Freda Corbin.

Jerry will be missed by all who knew him well.

A memorial was held recently in Jerry's honor in Phoenix by his manyfriends and Mensa members,with several family members attending. There will be a private family gathering at a later date. Jerry's wish was to be cremated with no formal ceremony.
