Junior Lee Collins
SUMMERFIELD, NC: Junior Lee Collins, formerly of Marion, Ohio passed away on Sunday December 16th, 2012 at the age of 83. He was in a Hospice facility in Summerfield, North Carolina. Junior Lee was born to the late Lee and Edith (Bowman) Collins on December 8th, 1929.
He loved his family and enjoyed many activities such as golf, playing cards, word games, music, square dancing, old movies, an avid OSU fan, and was great at Jeopardy.
He is survived by his wife Mary Lou (Lucy) Collins; daughter Debbie Collins of Greensboro, NC; son Kevin (Becky) Collins of Summerfield, NC; daughter Lisa Collins of Greensboro, NC and a daughter Samantha Heffner of Oakridge, NC; 9 grandchildren, Erica (Mike) Ford of Gainesville, Virginia. Aubrey and Marissa of Greensboro, NC, Cassidy, Colton and Skylar of Oakridge, NC, Joshua, Noah, and Rhianna of Summerfield, NC; two great grandchildren, Rayleigh and Raylan of Gainesville, Virginia; 5 sisters, Violet (Donald) Schmidt of Fort Worth, Texas, Bonnie (James) Sellers of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Peggy (Keith) (Adams) Rasey of Marion, Ohio, and twin sisters Diane Collins and Dianna Law of Marion, Ohio; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death was a brother, Kenneth Wilson; a grandson Sgt. Nicholas Ray Gibbs killed in action in Iraq ; and brother-in-laws, Donald Schmidt and James Sellers.
He graduated from Marion Harding in 1948. Lee was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, where he met the love of his life Mary Lou Ray and they were wed in 1952. He was employed for over 10 years at Whirlpool in Data Processing. The family then moved to North Carolina where he became a maintenance technician at Frito Lay for many years. Lucy and Lee retired to Florida for over 10 years, returning to North Carolina to be with all his children. Junior Lee lived out his final year around his loving and caring family.
