Charles F. Ley 87 of Marshfield died on Sunday morning, February 3, 2013 at Ministry St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:30 am Friday, February 8, 2013 at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church with Fr. Eric Berns officiating. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Marshfield, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 54 of Marshfield.
Visitations will be at the church on Friday from 10:30am until service time.
Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
Charles was born in Marshfield on December 18, 1925 to George and Mary (Durst) Ley. He attended Marshfield Schools and graduated from Marshfield High School.
He was united in marriage to May K. Boylan on November 29, 1947 in Eastman, WI. Her death was on February 28, 2012.
He was a 67 year member of the Marshfield Elks #665 and an honorary life member of the Knights of Columbus # 1799 of Marshfield.
Charles was a veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II from March 22, 1944 until his honorable discharge as a staff sergeant on May 22, 1946. He fought in Normandy and the Battle of The Bulge in which he received a purple heart.
After he returned from serving in the United States Army, he worked for his father at his Cheese Box Company in Colby until 1963. From 1963 until his retirement in 1985, he was employed as a traffic manager for Hub City Foods of Marshfield.
He is survived by his six children, Robert (Joanne) Ley of Wauconda, IL; Mary Louise (Thomas) Ewing of East Troy, David (Michele) Ley of Jackson, George (Mary) Ley of Hugo, MN, Patrick (Roberta) Ley of Marshfield and Barbara (Kurt) Angell of Plymouth, MN; 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Besides his parents and wife, Mary, he was preceded in death by an infant brother and sister, two brothers Roman and Arnold Ley, and three sisters Margaret Hastreiter, Sister Mary Colette Marcella, SSND and Marie Hansen.
