Ottelien, Ronald F.

Ronald Frank Ottelien, 71, Stratford, died on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, with his family by his side.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 6, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Jon Guenther officiating. Burial will take place in Grace Lutheran Church Cemetery where military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6352 of Stratford. Serving as pallbearers will be Tim and Mark Ottelien, Tom Wright, Chad Hoffman, Dalton Hoffman, Colton Wright, Clifford Hamus, and Luke Wyman. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne, Dennis, Tom, and Dave Hollatz, Fritz Beining, Jack Serchen, Jerry Daul, Hunter Wright and Kaden Hoffman. The visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm and on Friday from 12:00 pm until service time, all at Trinity Lutheran Church, Marshfield. Rembs Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Ronald was born on May 2, 1943 in the Town of Green Valley, Marathon County, the son of Herman and Mary (Robl) Ottelien. He attended McKinley Elementary School in Stratford and Marshfield Senior High School.

As a young man he was employed at Parkin Dairy, Marshfield and then at Weyerhaeuser Company. In 1967 he began serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He served as a Corporal in Battery A First Battalion 82nd Artillery in Chu Lai, Vietnam. After his honorable discharge in 1969 he returned to Weyerhaeuser and later became employed at Felker Brothers Manufacturing until retiring in 2005.

Ron was united in marriage to June Ellen Hollatz on March 20, 1971 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in the Town of McMillan.

He enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, gardening, woodworking, attending his grandson's games, Brewer games, playing and watching softball and fishing. His grandsons were his pride and joy.

He is survived by his wife, June, and their children, Robin (Tom) Wright of Milladore, Brenda (Chad) Hoffman, Timothy Ottelien, and Mark Ottelien, all of Stratford. He is also survived by 4 grandsons, Dalton and Kaden Hoffman and Colton and Hunter Wright and a special niece, Angie (Kyle) Kann and many other nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. He is further survived by a sister, Elaine (Jerome) Daul of Stratford.

He was predeceased by his parents, 2 brothers, Ervin and Clarence Ottelien, a sister Catherine in infancy and a sister, Lorraine Serchen.

Memorials may be designated in his name to Trinity Lutheran Church, Marshfield or Grace Lutheran Church, Town of Green Valley (Mosinee).

Ron was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be loved and missed by all.
