George Reid, 84, of Merced, passed away after an extended illness. George was born in Wolverhampton, England to James and Marjorie Reid. He grew up in France until he was 9. His family lived in France before World War II, returning to Britain before Germany invaded France. At age 17 he joined the Royal Air Force and served 10 years as an electrician and airplane mechanic. He attended college and received a degree in journalism. He was interested in radio announcing since he was a small child. When he moved to Canada in 1957 he pursued a career in radio. He became a radio announcer in Canada and then immigrated to the USA in 1961 after he landed a job at KROX am radio in Crookston MN. George moved to Wichita KS in 1965 where he helped open the first FM radio station of the community KQTY. He was a radio and TV personality in Wichita KS until he returned to Britain to live in 1979. George traveled far and wide to many countries and lived a very colorful life. He was married to Frederica for 20 years and they had three children Michael, Elisa, and Meredith (Bear) Reid. He later married Esmerelda Reid for an unfortunate short period of time due to her passing and then for the third time married Joanna Funk for 16 years.
George was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Michael and John and sons Michael and Meredith Reid. He is survived by his daughter Elisa Reid (Frederico Ayon), son Miles Reid; 5 grandchildren: Rosa Sifuentez, Jana Reid, Angelina Sifuentez, Ryan Reid, and Bianca Reid; and 12 great-grandchildren. George will be missed by many.
