Morris was the son of Lorenzo and Katherine McKellips.  He was born and raised in Santa Barbara and later moved to Chowchilla where he attended high school.  Maurice served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was a Sigma Chi and graduated from Fresno State University.  He later received his Master's degree from Stanislaus State University.  His communicative skills led him to be a reporter and editor for the Stars and Stripes, the Lindsay Gazette and the Fresno Bee.  He taught three years at Hanford High School before his thirty year tenure at Merced College, where he served as the chairman of the Humanities Division.
Maurice is survived by his loving wife of 56 years; Shirley of Atwater, daughter; Robin (Dee) of Lansing, sons; Martin of Chowchilla, Mathew of San Diego, James (Lynnie) of Atwater and Mason (Andi) of Chico and grandson; Jesse of Chico.
Mac was a 52 year resident of Merced County where he enjoyed living in the country and its private lifestyle.  His hobbies included fishing, camping, oil painting and he was an avid wood carver.  But most of all he cherished the time spent with family and friends.  We will carry his memory in our hearts forever.
