Born in Portland, Oregon to Elizabeth and Frank Cuculich. At the age of two, he moved with his parents from Portland to San Pedro, California by way of steamer, down the Oregon and California coasts.
Tom was educated in San Pedro schools and Compton Junior College. At the end of his sophomore year his education was interrupted by World War II. He joined the Army, and served on a crash boat off the coast of Maine, and then in the infantry in the European theater. He was discharged as a sergeant in 1946. He returned to his home in California and completed his Bachelor's degree at UCLA. He continued laboratory training at the State Health Department Lab which was located at that time on the UC Berkeley campus where he met his wife Laurice.
Upon completion of his training, he joined the staff of the newly established Public Health department in Chico. During his time in Chico, he continued his training in hospital lab procedures and worked at Enloe Hospital. In 1954 he moved his young family to Merced, where he worked at the Merced County Hospital lab. During the last years of his work career, he returned to public health, working for the Merced County Public Health Department. He retired in 1983.
Tom's passion was black and white photography in the style of Edward Weston. He spent many hours developing and printing his work in the basement of his home. His family is proud to display their favorites in their own homes.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents, Elizabeth and Frank Cuculich, and his sister Elizabeth Cuculich.
