Barbara Connolly Obituary
Barbara Connolly
Jun 8, 1951 - Feb 20, 2014
Resident of San Jose
Barbara Julie Connolly, née Gleason, died Thursday, February 20th, 2014. Barbara was born to Richard and Margaret Gleason on June 8th, 1951 and lived in Santa Clara and San Jose her entire life. Barbara had many passions, but nothing brought her more enjoyment than sitting at the beach in Santa Cruz with a good book. She was an avid reader and would pass that attribute on to all of her children. She also loved working in her garden and bringing in her vegetables and flowers. Barbara loved traveling, especially to Europe, and would talk about the plans for the next vacation. As her children entered school, Barbara returned to college, and would go on to graduate summa cum laude from San Jose State University with a B.A. Barbara then spent the next 20 years inspiring, nurturing and shaping futures as a public school teacher in San Jose. She retired in 2013.
Loving wife to Thomas for forty years. Beloved mother to Gabriel (Charissa), Ninian (Laura), Brigid (Felipe) and Maggie. Adored grandmother to Ethan, Aidan, Roland, Skylar and Athena. Cherished sister to Kathleen Gleason Worsley, Michael Gleason (d. 1989), Sherry Gleason Carlson and Paul Gleason. Her close family members include Marilyn and Roger March, Marcia Petersen and Stephanie Thompson. Barbara was a force to be reckoned with, full of love, tolerance, patience, humility and understanding. She will be missed greatly.
Services will be held at St. Nicholas Orthodox Church, 14220 Elva Ave in Saratoga. There will be a vesper service Friday February 28th at 7pm with the funeral on Saturday March 1st at 11am. The family asks that donations be made to the church in lieu of flowers.
