Barbara Ann Squier passed away September 5, 2013 in Roseville, California. She was born September 9, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan to Cecil and Leta Cross. Barbara lived most of her early life in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she graduated from Southside High School. She then attended the University of Michigan and graduated in 1950.
Barbara's main activities after reaching adulthood revolved around the theater, golf and, most importantly, her family. Her theater career started with the Fort Wayne Civic Theater and subsequently continued wherever she resided. Barbara was active on stage and also in administration. She was president of the Chicago Heights Drama Group in Illinois and president of Peninsula Civic Light Opera in San Mateo (now Broadway by the Bay). Her performances included roles in Gypsy, Auntie Mame, Hello Dolly, The King and I, Take Me Along, Alice in Wonderland and many others. She also appeared in several TV commercials and movies. She had roles in A Christmas Without Snow, 48 Hours and numerous other feature films.
Barbara was the Fort Wayne women's golf champion in 1952. As a low handicap golfer, she was an avid player most of her life. In one year she held three championships, Palo Alto, San Mateo and Crystal Springs Golf Club, all located on the San Francisco peninsula.
Barbara is survived by Raymond Squier, three daughters, seven grandchildren and one great grandson. Her son Craig passed away in 1992. Her daughters Caryl Holloway and Barbara Louie (and son-in-law Dennis Louie) reside in San Carlos, CA and Donna Smith resides in Benicia, CA. Her loving grandchildren are Megan and Tara Holloway, Claire and Camille Louie, Tim, Debbie, and Rebekah Smith, and her great grandson is Cash Holloway.
Her vibrant wit and humor were her special trademarks and her genuine concern for others was evident every day of her life. Barbara, known to her grandchildren as Gaga, will be sorely missed by all who knew her.
