Clyde Hammer, 92, precious father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, passed away on January 18, 2014. He was a longtime resident of San Jose and Santa Clara and resided for the past 16 years in Arizona.
Born in Mt. Vernon, Missouri, Clyde was raised in Fresno, CA, where he graduated from high school. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Air Corps for 44 months during WWII. After the war, he settled in San Mateo County, later living in Santa Clara, then San Jose, and retiring to Arizona. Clyde first worked as a cabinet maker, and in 1965 opened Cee-Gee Parking Lot Striping with a partner. He was a charter member of the Sunnyvale Elks Lodge and a longtime VFW member. He worked with several youth groups and was active in fundraising. Clyde was happiest spending time with his family and friends. He was an avid golfer and pinochle player, and he loved fishing and camping.
Preceded in death by his wife, Wanda, Clyde is survived by his sister, Lora Vogt; children Deana Garcia (Richard), Derrol Hammer (Linda), Devin Hammer; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and many cherished nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Celebration of Life, in memory of Clyde, will be held Saturday, March 15, 2014 from 2-4 pm, at La Loma Village, 14154 Denny Blvd., Litchfield Park, Arizona 85340. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Clyde's name to Hospice of the Valley (www.hov.org).
