Resident of Hollister
Donald S. Chuck passed away suddenly on July 7, 2014 in Hollister, Ca. He was born to Spasoje and Danica (Gacanich) Chuck on May 3, 1931, in San Jose, CA. Don was raised on the family apricot orchard in Cupertino with his brother and sisters. He graduated from UC Davis in 1952 with a degree in Animal Husbandry before serving in the US Army (Germany) for 2 years. Upon returning home he married his beloved Maxine (Arnold) on January 28, 1956. A resident of Gilroy for many years before moving to his current home at Ridgemark CC in Hollister.
Don was an Agricultural Marketing & Sales representative for Food Machinery Corporation (FMC) until 1966 when he and his brother, Alex, opened El Camino Crop Supply in Gilroy. Don became well known in the fertilizer and chemical industry while operating branches in Gilroy, Hollister, Los Banos, Watsonville and Fremont until 1989. He then became the manager of Business Development and Sales at Crop Management Corporation in Greenfield, CA until his retirement in 2002. In retirement he was active in the management of his real estate investments and served on the board of Agri-Thrive for the past eight years.
In 1973 Don realized his dream of going into the cattle business. He enjoyed many weekends working cattle in Oakdale and continued there until 2004. Don and Maxine loved to travel and took many trips through the years; he also enjoyed fishing and boating. Don's greatest joy was his children and grandchildren and he always looked forward to the next time they would all get together.
Don was a founding member and past president (20+ years) of Saint Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church in Saratoga and attended services regularly until his death. He was instrumental in the building of the church hall in 1963 and worked tirelessly for many years toward the dream of building a new church which has recently been realized. Don is survived by his loving wife Maxine, son Mitchell (Janet) Chuck of Gilroy, daughter Michele (Michael) Winn of Hollister, grandchildren Eric, Tyler and Kristina Chuck, Nathan and Travis Winn, sisters Angie Chuck Gill of San Jose and Millie (Charles) Fleskes of Cupertino and numerous nieces and nephews.
