1950 - 2014 Obituary Condolences
Dorrie Ann (Weiss) Ward Obituary
Dorrie Ann (Weiss) Ward
Of San Luis Obispo
Dorrie Ann (Weiss) Ward died after a 14-year battle with breast cancer Tuesday, April 22, 2014, surrounded by her family and close friends at her home in San Luis Obispo.
She lived life to its fullest and never complained about her illness.
She was born in Fresno, Calif., in December 1950, the eldest of seven, to Burruss E. Weiss and Donna J. (Perrott) Weiss.
Dorrie graduated from San Jose City College with a degree in nursing. She worked as a dedicated nurse in the ICU for 30 years at various hospitals in Gilroy, San Jose and finally San Luis Obispo.
Dorrie married John R. Adams in December of 1969 and had a son and a daughter. She later married Patrick J. Ward on August 1, 1987, and had two sons.
Dorrie was an unconditionally loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and grandmother. Those who know Dorrie would attest to her kindness and effortless ability at making conversation with anyone who crossed her path.
She cherished her work as a nurse, cooking for her family, visiting relatives, travel, movies and interacting with her loved ones. She was patient, kind, compassionate, and always thought of others first.
Dorrie is survived by her husband of 26 years, Patrick; three children Jancilyn Adams Pettitt (Aaron), Matthew Ward and Michael Ward; two grandchildren Jacob and Autumn Pettitt; parents, Donna and Burruss Weiss; and five siblings Eric Weiss, Larry Weiss, Harry Weiss, Lindy Wisotsky and Sarah Jane Weiss.
She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Jacob Adams; and brother, Brian Weiss.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Hearst Cancer Resource Center at French Hospital in San Luis Obispo.
