Dale, as everyone knew him, was born to Elmer and Marjorie Cooksey. A graduate from Pt Loma High School in San Diego, he went to San Jose State, but left to join the army. Afterwards, went back to San Jose State, and graduated with a business degree. Dale met and married Barbara Matich during this time.
Dale joined his father in his dad's insurance firm of Cooksey, Battersby, & Moore. In the early 70's, he divorced, and then met and married Margaret Nichols. By this time Dale retired early and sold out to Keith MacBeth, Dale had found a new passion, volleyball. Dale also started a partnership with his father and bought property in Capitola. Betsy and Dale traveled until Betsy's death in 1990. Dale then moved back down to San Diego, returning to Santa Cruz and his condo, overlooking New Brighten Beach. In 2006 Dale decided to live at Aegis Assisted Living in Aptos, where he passed away.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday Oct 20th, 2-5pm at The Dream Inn Hotel, Santa Cruz, overlooking the beach where he played volleyball. In lieu of flowers the family has asked to have donations sent to Paralyzed Veterans, and Hospice of Santa Cruz.
