Frank Brien Durand Obituary
Frank Brien Durand
Feb. 7, 1929 ~ Mar. 4, 2014
Resident of San Jose, CA
Beloved Father, Grand-father and friend, Frank Brien Durand, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, March 4th , during the early morning hours. Frank is survived by his three sons Dana, Ryan, and Deric Durand and daughter-in-law, Bernadette Durand; his eight grandchildren Dane, Danielle, Malia, Christian, Ariel and Alison and their mother Carmen Wooten, Kelly, Lisa and their mother Gayle Crusan, and five great grandchildren.
Frank's passions included spending time with family and friends, fishing, camping, rock hounding and of course playing poker with his dear friends and colleagues known as the "Poker Gang". You could hear him lament at the beginning of their games "bet 'em high and sleep in the streets!"
Frank was an accomplished four letterman athlete in high school and enjoyed sharing his skills with his kids and grandkids. He always made time for his family after work and on weekends no matter how tired he might be.
Frank graduated from the University of Washington with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He enlisted in the Air Force out of college and served for four years reaching the rank of First Lieutenant. He then moved to the Santa Clara Valley, where he enjoyed a long and successful career working for IBM and for most of his career at Fairchild Semiconductor. It was during these years that many of his closest friendships were formed with his colleagues at Fairchild.
The two marriages in Frank's life were to his sons' beloved mother Mercedes Smullen in the early years, when the boys were growing up, and then later to Genny Durand, "His Redhead" as he liked to call her, who predeceased Frank by two years almost to the day.
Frank's kindness, compassion for his friends and family and his genuine warmth will be missed by all. A "Celebration of Life" will be held at the Toll House Hotel in Los Gatos on Sunday, March 23rd, between 2pm and 5pm. Address 140 South Santa Cruz Ave, Los Gatos, 95030. Hotel Phone: 408-395-7070.
