Resident of San Jose
A special son, brother, uncle and friend, George came to San Jose in 1919 from Lowell Mass. He went to Lowell Elementary, Woodrow Wilson Jr. High and San Jose High School until the Eleventh Grade and Graduated from Campbell High School in 1936. He attended San Jose State College while working part time for the City of San Jose as a Draftsman. He joined the Navy right after Pearl Harbor and served aboard the USS Phelps DD360 for the entire War. He was in many battles from the Aleutians to the South Pacific. He left the Navy in October 1945 and began his career as a Civil Service Fireman at Moffett Field. He ended his career 30 years later as Fire Chief. He served at Air Bases all over the World, California, the Philippines, Alaska, South Carolina, Newfoundland and Klamath Falls Ore. George was an active member of the Masons for many years while in the Philippines. When he returned to the States he also joined the Elks. He is preceded in death by his Parents M. J. and Alice S. Andrews, his sister Alice Dilgard (Herb) she served 26 years in the Army and Air Force, brother Frank Andrews (Leota) who was a Paratrooper; all three served in WWII; Nephews Rodney Allen Andrews and Michael T. Peddy. He is survived by his sister Barbara Peddy (Tim); nieces Angela Faulkner (Gary), Mary Peddy, Kelly Shart (Udo), Elizabeth Peddy (Sean Stevenson), Julie Rienhardt (Michael Enos), niece Gail Andrews Brown and nephew Glen Andrews (Lisa); also 6 Great Nephews, 9 Great Nieces, 1 Great Great Niece and 2 Great Great Nephews. His last years were spent at Belmont Village where he was well taken care of by a great staff. Our special thanks to caregiver Danny and the other Pals, as well as Gilda and the nursing staff that assisted George with kindness and professionalism.
