Resident of Cambria, CA
George was born April 12, 1926, in Newport WA, to Harold and Grace Sewell, the third of five children. He passed away peacefully on April 15, 2014. George attended NROTC at the University of Minnesota during World War II. He was a math teacher for several years and later worked as a programmer at IBM for 33 years. He lived in Saratoga, CA for many years, moving to Cambria, CA with his wife, Marj in 2004. For many years he belonged to the Saratoga Camera Club, The Sierra Club and various square dancing clubs. He had many passions, his greatest was photography. He also loved dancing, singing, hiking, backpacking, camping and swimming. He cherished his time at Diamond Lake at the family cabin. He drove across the United States many times enjoying the countryside and on family vacations, extended the drives by stopping to photograph the scenery. He was a world traveler. He loved taking cruises, crossing the Atlantic several times. His second great passion was for astronomy, and he spent his last night on earth watching the lunar eclipse. George is survived by his wife of 25 years, Marj; his sister Martha Oien (James) of Issaquah, WA; his three children, Phil (Maria) of Goleta, CA, Jackie Klimowski (Mike) of Spokane, WA and Tom (Charmen) of Mill Creek, WA; 8 grandchildren, 11 great-grand-children and 1 great-great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jim; sisters Grace and Win; and the mother of his children, Betty Lazaga Sewell. A memorial will be held May 12, at 1:30, at the St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 2700 Eton Road in Cambria.
