Gerald (Jerry) Johnson passed away at his home in Cupertino, CA on February 2, 2013 with his 6 children at his bedside. Jerry is preceded in death by his wife of 41 years, Patricia, and survived by children Jay, Jeep, Jeff, Jimmy, Jill, Julie Johnson, and nine grandchildren. He is also predeceased by his companion of 14 years, Jane Taylor.
After graduating from Indiana University Jerry had a 35-year career with Ciba-Geigy (Novartis) working as a sales representative, trainer and manager.
After family, music was his passion. He played saxophone in dance bands throughout high school and college. Most every night after work he would sit at the piano and play for pleasure. Later in his life he played Dixieland piano with the Jerry Johnson Trio and the South Bay Stompers.
Jerry was active in the community. He served on and chaired many committees at Grace United Methodist Church in Saratoga. He was a member and past president of Kiwanis, where he also served for many years as the chairperson of the Good Friday Prayer Breakfast. He was a member of the Resident Council and coordinator of the Staff Appreciation Fund while living at Sunny View Manor in Cupertino. He also played piano regularly at several retirement communities in the area.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service Friday, February 8th at 2:00pm at Sunny View Manor, 22445 Cupertino Road, Cupertino. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the
