Gordon A. Rooney, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, veteran, Lion, Spartan, Moose, friend, and all around good guy.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Donna Lenz Rooney, his sons, Daryl (Mary) and Gary (Carlene), four grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.
Gordon was a Navy airman in the
and earned three
and a United Nations Ribbon for his service.
After the service, Gordon was a
in Campbell and later became an insurance adjuster and private investigator. For six years he and Donna resided in Hawaii and sponsored a canoe club called Pohi Ke Aloha which means encirclement of love.
Gordon was a fifty year member of the San Jose Host Lions Club and served as its president. He was also a life member of the Visalia Moose Lodge.
In 2006, he moved with his wife to the Villages Golf and Country Club. There he continued his support for San Jose State Athletics and academics.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Donna and Gordon Rooney Athletic Scholarship at One Washington Square, San Jose, CA 95192. Private services have been held. A memorial "Tail Gate" will be held at the Villages in November.
