Henry Della "Hank" Maggiore Obituary
Henry "Hank" Della Maggiore
September 30, 1925 - March 16, 2013
Native of San Jose
Henry Della Maggiore, 87 peacefully passed away after a long illness at the home he loved, in the presence of family and loved ones. He was the son of Italian immigrants. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy at 17, and was stationed in Hawaii in the Naval Air Transport Service. After serving his country, he returned to San Jose and married his childhood sweetheart, Anne Pasquinelli in 1947. He is survived by his wife, Anne and next month they would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary. They were blessed with three children, Glenn and daughter-in-law Diane, Gary and daughter-in-law Marie, Cathy Vincent and son-in-law Charles. He was wonderful "Papa Hank" to six grandchildren, Dante, Andrea, Marco, Gianna, Julie, Lauren and Arthur O'Looney. He had four great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Luca, Alexander and Ruby. Hank was a vegetable truck farmer in East San Jose for over 35 years and was a hard-working and devoted family man. After he retired from farming, he continued his "green thumb" talents working for Co-Op Markets in the produce department. Hank returned to school to complete his GED and was proud of this accomplishment. Hank had a gregarious nature and was a friend to all. Family meant everything to him. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener, homemade vinegar-maker and had a life-long love of dogs. He was a member of the Elks, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Society of Italian Americans. He was a long time parishioner of Holy Cross Church. Donations in his name can be made to Hospice of the Valley. Visitation, Sunday 3/24 from 5-8PM with Vigil at 6PM at Lima Family Santa Clara, 466 N. Winchester Blvd. Mass, Monday 3/25 at 10AM at Holy Cross Church, 580 Jackson St., San Jose. Interment to follow at Santa Clara Mission Cemetery, 490 Lincoln St.
