Resident of San Carlos
Henry Washauer a sixty-five year resident of San Carlos died peacefully at the age of 92 on August 15, 2014. Ever the proud native San Franciscan, Henry was born to Sidney and Belle Washauer. He was raised by his mother Belle along with his sister Estelle in San Francisco. Henry graduated from Lowell High School, attended San Francisco City College, and went work for Simmons Mattress Company in 1941. He worked for Simmons for thirty eight years and retired in 1979.
During WWII, Henry joined the Maritime Service in San Francisco. In 1946 Henry met his future wife LaVerne and they were married in May of 1947. In 1949, Henry and Laverne moved to San Carlos where they raised their daughter Wanda and son Gary. Henry was the Treasurer of the Simmons Credit Union, Treasurer of the San Mateo Astronomical Society, President of the Sequoia Stamp Club, President of the Focus Photographic Society, and Secretary of the San Mateo
. One of Henry's proudest accomplishments was his Bar Mitzvah at eighty-seven in 2009. The family especially thanks the Caregivers at Senior Helpers for the thoughtful, comforting, and caring services they provided to Henry.
Henry was predeceased by his wife LaVerne and is survived by daughter Wanda Patane, son Gary Washauer, grandson Brian Patane, granddaughter Kimberly Patane, and great grandson Gavin Patane. He was the uncle of his favorite nieces and nephew Nancy Fail, Susan McKinley, Cheryl Lind, and Dr. Don Willis.
A memorial service will be held on September 7th at 4:00 p.m. at the Temple Beth Jacob in Redwood City, CA.
