Resident of San Jose
Jack Allan Marsh, 82, of San Jose CA, passed away peacefully at home on January 24, 2013, surrounded by his loving wife Bette and family . Jack was born in Bakersfield, CA, on December 28, 1930 to Delphine and Fred Marsh. He served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C. in the elite 82nd Airborne Division. Training as a paratrooper, Jack was a veteran of more than two-dozen jumps and reached the rank of PFC before retiring from active duty.
With the unique skills he had acquired during his Army service, Jack embarked upon what would be a distinguished lifelong career in the aviation and aerospace industry. He traveled a career path that led to his employment at Lockheed Corporation, working in a top secret assembly line facility. It was only several years later Jack learned he had actually been assembling components for the U-2 spyplane. Eventually, Jack's career path took him to the Nasa/Ames Research Center at Moffett Field in Mountain View, CA. He worked in both aviation and aerospace as a master machinist in the Wind Tunnel Division, creating detailed scale wind tunnel test models of military and civilian aircraft and spacecraft, including the B-2 stealth bomber and the space shuttle. Jack worked for 30 years at Nasa Ames, retiring in 2004.
Jack's co-workers at Nasa/Ames, his family, and friends, would all agree that Jack's incredibly unique sense of humor was integral to his personality, interwoven into his life, enriching all those who had the privilege of spending time with him. He enjoyed time with family, traveling with his wife Bette, and early morning visits with his two and four legged friends at the dog park, accompanied by his beloved dog Del. Jack was an avid reader of military history and politics, an expert at crossword puzzles, and he loved tinkering with mechanical projects large and small.
