Jacob "Jack" Bluth
Resident of San Bruno
Our beloved Jack passed away peacefully on July 25th with loved ones at his side. He was 90.
Jack was born on July 20, 1924 in San Francisco, California. He attended Polytechnic High School. Jack married the love of his life, Teresa (Sanchez) in 1943, and recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary. As a
World War II
veteran, he served in the South Pacific with the USNR during the Battle of Tinian and later served in the Philippine Islands. After the war, he attended College of San Mateo and San Francisco State College and graduated with a degree in Journalism. Jack began his newspaper career as an apprentice printer and
at the Point Reyes Baywood Press in Marin County. In 1951, he joined the staff of the San Mateo Times and soon after became sports editor. He retired in 1989 after an illustrious 38 years at "The Times". In 1993, Jack was inducted (along with fellow inductee Bill Walsh) into the San Mateo County Sports Hall of Fame. A San Mateo County resident for over 60 years, Jack was an avid golfer and lifetime member of the Poplar Creek Golf Club, where he also served as Director.
A soul like no other, Jack was quick-witted and funny. He enjoyed telling stories as much as he liked listening to them. He will be greatly missed. Jack is survived by his wife, Teresa P. Bluth, and his brother Raymond F. Bluth.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the team of caregivers who provided much comfort to Jack during his final months. A special thank you to Pathways Hospice.
Friends and family are invited to remember Jack at services held on August 5, 2014 at 11:00 a.m., at St. Bruno's Church, 555 San Bruno Avenue West, San Bruno. Reception to follow at the church hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of Jack may be made to St. Bruno's Church.
