Jane Van Horn Soper, born Sedalia, Missouri peacefully passed away Sunday morning last week with family attending.
Jane spent her wonder years in Gower, Missouri and graduated valedictorian of Mena Arkansas High School. She enlisted in the Nurse Cadet Corps, was completing her nurses training at Charity Hospital, New Orleans on VJ Day. She received her B.S. in Nursing at University of Minnesota.
In 1955 Jane married Scott F. Soper, moved to Fremont in 1962, and raised a family of four children. Throughout the 1960's with regular trips to Stern Grove and Wood Minister theaters, Ano Nuevo Beach, camping and travel, and encouraged all her children to be world travelers.
From 1967 - 1984, Jane was a Staff Nurse, Coronary Care Nurse, and Nurse Practitioner, at Kaiser Hospitals in Hayward, Oakland and Santa Clara. She was a regular blood donor, volunteered for the American Heart Association, and was a guest speaker in the Ohlone College Nursing Program. Jane, retired in 1984, spending 10 years wintering in Bahia Kino, Mexico, and summering in the USA visiting friends and attending over 40 Elderhostel's.
In her Christian life, Jane performed many acts of charity, generosity & kindness. While living in Kino, Mexico she spear-headed drives to replace damaged windows at the local school, a failed water pump in a subsistence village, and delivered groceries and treats to the poorest families living on the ejidos at Christmas time.
Returning to Fremont in 1994, Jane taught bible study at Irvington Presbyterian Church, volunteered at the Library, the Senior Center, the Tri-City Free Breakfast Program, and for many years was a Salvation Army Bell Ringer.
Jane is survived by her children Scott Jr., Lindy, John, and Brian, and their families. A Memorial Service will be held at on December 3rd, 10:00 a.m. at Irvington Presbyterian Church, 4181 Irvington Ave, in Fremont.
