Joan M. Desky March 2, 1926 - Feb. 5, 2014 Resident of San Mateo Joan M. Desky passed away peacefully on February 5, 2014. Joan was born in Muskegon, MI on March 2, 1926 to parents Harold and Mildred Rochon as the second of five children. Joan was valedictorian of her class at St. Jean's High School in 1943 and graduated from Mercy Central School of Nursing in Grand Rapids, MI in 1946. As a nurse, Joan worked at Mercy in Muskegon before moving to South Bend, IN to work for St. Joseph's Hospital and then for Dr. Sherman Egan, University Physician for the University of Notre Dame for seven years. After working as a nurse at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for several months, she moved to San Francisco in 1954 and worked for Dr. Frank Solomon, head of Internal Medicine at St. Mary's Medical Center, in his private office and for Dr. Charles Lebo, a noted otolaryngoligist. In 1964, Joan married Robert M. Desky at the Mission at San Luis Obispo and became a full-time mother in 1965 when her son Drew was born. Joan moved to San Mateo in 1967 and was an active resident of the city for 47 years. Joan returned to work in 1976 to manage her husband's private law practice for 20 years, until she retired in 1996. Joan was also active in the political sphere, having been Registration Chairman for the Young Republicans at the 1964 Republican National Convention at the Cow Palace in San Francisco. She also personally met four Presidents of the United States. Joan is survived and beloved by her husband Robert, her son Drew, and her sister Mary Paula Egyed of Spring Lake, MI. She was predeceased by her sister Ann Rochon, her brother Harold Rochon, fallen in battle in Korea, and her sister Cecile Vye. A service will take place on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at 7:00pm at Sneider & Sullivan & O'Connell's, 977 S. El Camino Real, San Mateo, CA, preceded by viewing beginning at 3:00pm. She will be interred in the Spring Lake Township Cemetery in Spring Lake, MI.
