Joan Kuhn Obituary
Joan M. Kuhn Resident of Santa Rosa Joan Kuhn (Mitchell) passed away on July 20, 2013 in her home in Santa Rosa after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Chicago on June 14, 1934 to Russell and Mary Francis Mitchell (McMahon). She has a younger brother, Jack and sister, Rosemary (d. 1959). She was married to Nick Kuhn on Aug. 16, 1958. They had 5 children, Tom (Casey), Jim (Heidi) Noh-Kuhn, Rosemary, John (Kerry), and Mary Catherine, five grandchildren, Kevin (d. 2012), Mitchel, Madilyn, Sereana Raiyawa, and Niko Raiyawa, and one great grandchild, Kayla. Joan graduated from Mundelein College in Chicago in 1956. Next she taught grade school in Chicago and then math at Holy Cross HS in Mountain View, CA. After her marriage to Nick, they lived Cupertino for 5 years, then settled in Palo Alto for 30 years. In 1995 Joan and Nick moved to Santa Rosa. Joan spent almost 20 years volunteering in chaplaincy at Stanford Hospital. She served on the Board of the Luther Burbank Guild, was active in the Cursillo movement for years, and was in several spiritual discussion groups and civic groups. Joan was an avid reader and avid swimmer. Joan has a reputation for loving ice cream. Joan will be long remembered for her joyful, friendly personality and for the positive and inspiring attitude she brought to her rather long battle with terminal cancer. A memorial service for Joan will be held on Aug 3 at 12:00 noon at Resurrection Church, 303 Stony Point Rd, Santa Rosa, CA.
