John William Bluth Nov. 7, 1915 - Nov.2, 2012 Resident of San Mateo Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, John Bluth passed away peacefully on Friday, November 2, 2012, shortly before his 97th birthday surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 7, 1915 in Berkley, California to the late Mary (Bluth) Stariha and Matthias Bluth. He is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Irene Bluth, loving son Richard (Anne) Bluth, and his four adored and cherished grandchildren Daniel, Maria, Thomas and Mark Bluth. He is survived by his brother Robert Stariha, nieces Diane (Walt) Werner and Elaine (Dennis) Milar, and nephew Gary Bluth. He was predeceased by siblings Mary Yerman, Virginia Corboff and Matthew Bluth. John was a Medic in the U.S. Army from March, 1941 until August, 1945 serving in the Asia Pacific Theatre where he received a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He was a member of Sons in Retirement (SIRS), Mended Hearts Association, and the San Mateo Elks. He retired in 1973 from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years, serving Fiesta Gardens for the final 16 years of his Postal career. He was a lifetime member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association Chapter 1317. John was an accomplished ballroom dancer which he greatly enjoyed with Irene during their 57 years of marriage. They also traveled extensively throughout the world. He cultivated his rose garden, played baseball and golf, and was an avid sports fan of the SF Giants and 49'ers. He will be remembered for his patience, kind heart, warm unselfish spirit and especially the endless love and adoration he had for his family. The memory of his unconditional love for each and all of us will be our comfort. He was a gift to all who knew him and will forever be missed. Viewing Thursday, Nov.8 at 6:30 p.m. Vigil at 7:00 p.m. at Sneider, Sullivan & O'Connell's, 977 S El Camino, San Mateo. The Funeral Mass will be at St. Gregory Church, 2715 Hacienda St., San Mateo, at 10:30 am. Friday, Nov. 9. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
