John M. Morrison Resident of Nevada City 90, died November 17, 2012 at his home in Nevada City. John was a third generation Californian, born January 3, 1922 in Kingsburg, California to Maurice Alfred Herz and Charity Morrison Herz. John served in the United States Army Air Force during WWII. He was assigned to the 332nd Bomb Squadron in England and France. John flew 35 Combat Missions (30 as Lead Bombardier). He received the Distinguished Flying Cross, and The Purple Heart. After his service, John earned a BA degree at San Jose State College and a Doctor of Jurisprudence at the University of San Francisco. He enjoyed a long and distinguished career ad Deputy Attorney General for the State of California, he retired in 1982. He enjoyed jeeping to remote areas, sailing in the San Francisco Bay, Fly Fishing in the Sierra Nevada's and Bahamas', and golf. He served as President of the Sacramento Men's Golf Club at Haggin Oaks in 1959. He was a member of The American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, Grass Valley Elks, and the Nevada County Country Club. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Janice of Nevada City and his son Glenn V. Morrison of Reno, NV, previous wife Doris Morrison, two grandsons; John G. Morrison, Tyler Morrison, and two granddaughters ; Amber Booher and Jennifer Morrison. John was preceded in death by his son Grant R. Morrison and wife Bobbie Morrison. John M. Morrison's final resting place will be at Arlington National Cemetery with Full Military Honors. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family is suggesting a donation to your local, favorite rescue or animal shelter. Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
