Resident of San Jose
On Monday, John Michael Romeo passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Born in Chicago, IL, John was the son of Christine and Patrick Romeo. He graduated from Steinmetz High School and attended the University of Illinois. He married his high school sweetheart and joined the National Guard in 1961. He built a career in the construction industry and moved his family to San Jose, CA in 1975 after taking a role in the Nuclear Power division of General Electric.
In California, John's two true passions, family and baseball, came together with his involvement as one of the founders of Santa Teresa Little League. He served on the Board of Directors and managed teams for over 10 years. John continued his involvement in youth baseball as the owner of The Sportsman Sport Shop, a baseball-focused store that supplied uniforms and equipment to local youth and adult leagues out of its Sunnyvale and San Jose locations. In later years, John was happiest supporting and watching his grandchildren play sports.
John is survived by his wife Sally; devoted sons Dean (Shelley) of San Jose, Rick (Amanda) of Sunnyvale and Michael (Joyce) of San Carlos. He adored his 7 grandchildren: Nicholas, Christopher, Cameron, Giovanni, Matteo, Julianna and Natalie. He also leaves behind his brother, Stanford "Bud", and many loving nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Friends and Family are invited to a service at Santa Teresa Church 794 Calero Avenue, San Jose on Monday, April 2, 2012 at 10 a.m. with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in John's name to the
