Leo Raymond Boyd died July 18, 2013, 3 days shy of his 91st birthday with Parkinson's disease. The funeral service was held at the Unitarian Church in Los Gatos, 7/20. Final arrangements are handled by Darling Fischer Mortuary.
Leo Boyd was born July 21, 1922 Schenectady, New York to John Raymond and Catherine Boyd. He was predeceased by older sister Marcella Boyd Robbins and twin brothers James and John Boyd. After high school, Leo took a job as a machinist in a metal working plant to finance his college education. His life plans changed drastically after Dec. 7, 1941. He enlisted in the United States Army, then took part in the A.S.T. P. plan and eventually saw combat with the 369th Army Division, artillery, in Europe, and remained after the end of the war in Biarritz, France for 8 months before returning home. After completing his service Leo graduated from Union College with a B.S. in engineering, and began his career at G.E. in the Knowles Laboratories in Schenectady, N.Y. He went on to earn an M.S. in Physics at the University of Idaho, Moscow campus in 1953. Leo earned 14 patents for his work during his lifetime. Leo was active in the Democratic Party for years, serving as program chair and executive board member of the Santa Clara Democratic Party club. His favorite charity was Boys Town in Omaha, Nebraska. The central focus of his life was his family.
Leo is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Doris Zook Boyd. He was predeceased by his first wife and mother of his six children, Olga Max Boyd. His children include Peter R. Boyd, M.D. (Carol), Thomas Boyd, Karen Butterfield, M.D. (James Tetrud, M.D.), Michael Boyd, M.D. (Kathy), Linda Boyd (Ravi Pandya), and Stewart Boyd (Elizabeth). Grandchildren include Gregory Boyd, PhD., Michael Boyd, Billy Tetrud, Brian Tetrud, Julia Tetrud, Devin Boyd, Jesse Boyd, Rachel Boyd, Gavin Pandya, Nicholas Boyd, and Anna Boyd.
Memorial donations may be made to The Parkinson's Institute, 675 Almanor Ave., Sunnyvale, Ca., 94085; or Boy's Town of Omaha, Nebraska. The family wishes to thank Dr. Marsha Armstrong and The Plumtree Care Center for their wonderful care of our husband, father, and grandfather, Leo Boyd.
