Mark Vernon Bell Obituary
Mark Vernon Bell
Sept. 25, 1920 - Dec. 17, 2013
Resident of Daly City
Mark was born in Oakland, CA, (now called Berkeley), at Alta Bates Hospital - to the proud parents Mark Harrison and Mildred Leila Bell. He is survived by his loving wife, of 28 years, Betty Bell, his beloved only daughter, Leslie Karen Chur, and a loving Grandson Brandon Markus Chur. Mark extended his love to the three stepchildren - Pamela Couts, Dawn Campbell, and John Perrin, and was loved and appreciated back three fold.
Mark grew up in S.F., down by the Marina. He loved to fish, crab, swim at the Sutro pools and hike the hills of the Presidio. He was an outdoor person and the perfect Grandfather to teach Grandson Brandon to fish. He had interests that were many and varied including traveling the world with his wife Betty, teaching his grandson to catch fish, music, playing tennis and later in his 70's took to playing golf.
He graduated from Galileo High School while WWII was raging, so at 22 he joined the army and was immediately sent to Officers Candidate School. Mark graduated and served in the Pacific for 3 ½ years and then continued serving in the Army Reserve for 30 years. Mark was fiercely patriotic and loved his country. He was awarded three Bronze Stars and reached the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
As well as serving his country Mark worked for AT&T Yellow Pages and after 28 years he retired in 1983.
He was loved and will be missed by all.
