Michael Joseph Callahan Obituary
Michael Joseph Callahan
Dec. 2, 1935 - Aug. 5, 2014
Resident of Los Gatos
Michael Joseph Callahan, 78, passed away on August 5, 2014, in Los Gatos California, with his family at his side.
He was an accomplished technologist and a successful high technology chief executive. He attended MIT, graduating with a BSEE degree, after serving in the United States Marine Corps. After starting his career at Motorola, he came to Silicon Valley in 1978 where he was involved as President in orchestrating the still legendary turnaround of Monolithic Memories and participating as well in the dramatic growth of Advanced Micro Devices. Finally, as CEO he successfully positioned his last company, Wafer Scale Integration, as a leader in its segment.
While he took great pride in his academic and professional achievements, there was nothing he loved and cherished more than his three children, Kevin and wife Susan, Laura and husband Eddie, and Brian and his partner Terry, and his five wonderful grandchildren, Naomi, Niko, Michael, Tyler and Ryan, along with his brother George. He was preceded in death by his lovely wife of 45 years, Nina.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 9, from 6-9 pm with the vigil at 7 pm at Darling & Fischer Campbell Memorial Chapel, 231 E. Campbell Ave., with a mass at St. Lucy's Church on Winchester on Sunday, August 10, at 3 pm.
