Roland Garafola Phillips
Resident of Palm Desert, CA
Roland Phillips, 74, passed away from cancer on April 29, 2013 at the City of Hope. A San Jose native, Roland attended James Lick. He served in the Air Force and was stationed in England.
In 1978 he cofounded Service by Medallion. The Valley based janitorial company continues to flourish.
An avid golfer, Roland moved to his 'Golfer's Paradise', the Palm Springs area, following retirement in 1998. He achieved six holes-in-one and was a member of the Ridgemark and San Jose Country Clubs.
A dog enthusiast, Roland's entrees won several events. His travels included the Westminster Dog Show, a highlight of his sporting experiences.
Roland was an often invited guest at the Playboy Mansion in Holmby Hills.
An automotive enthusiast, he was an honored guest at the Indianapolis 500.
Roland's 'Bucket List' included horse racing. Roland enjoyed Turf Club admission to the Kentucky Derby, the Breeders Cup and Del Mar.
He leaves behind his wife and best friend of 29 years, Vicki Ortiz Phillips and his loving family, 'Team Roland', who supported him and Vicki during the challenging last year of his life. Team Roland knows Roland is with the Lord.
Services will be held at Gate of Heaven in Los Altos Hills on September 16, 2013. Those interested should contact: firstname.lastname@example.org for information. Grammy award winning KC and the Sunshine Band will dedicate their September 15th concert at the Mountain Winery to Roland.
