Virginia Mae Halpin (Jacobsen) died at the age of 90 on 8/21/13 at home in Burlingame. Those who knew Ginnie know she smiled upon them with her love, strength and humor while fighting
for 34 years. She loved her family, friends, doctors and nurses as well as the SF Giants, 49ers and all things involving sports.
Ginnie was born on 9/6/22 and raised in Healdsburg, CA. She graduated from Healdsburg High and during the summers she picked prunes and hops. She later worked at Southern Pacific RR in SF until Jan. 1943 when she joined the Navy Waves. She went to NY for boot camp and then to OK for 3 months for Yeoman School and graduated as a 3rd class Yeoman. She was at Camp Parks and then transferred to Treasure Island Naval Station with duty at Y.B.I. before being discharged in 1948.
She later went to the Federal Office Bldg. in communications where she met Jack Halpin. Ginnie and Jack were later married and lived in Hawaii where Jack was stationed in Pearl Harbor before settling down in Burlingame. They raised her stepson John Halpin and were married for 38 years before Jack's passing in 1993.
Ginnie volunteered at the
Ginnie reconnected with high school sweetheart, Jack Eagan in 1998. They had an 11 year love affair before Jack passed away in 2009.
Ginnie was the loving daughter of Kate and Fred Jacobsen and a devoted big sister to Helen, John and Jake, all of whom are deceased. She is survived by stepson John Halpin (Basia), granddaughter Nicole; nieces Kris Mongerson (Ben), Karen Jacobsen (Carol), Nancy Ellis (Sparky); nephews Rick Jacobsen (Viki), Mark Jacobsen (Nancy), Chris Jacobsen (Kelly), Scott Ogilvie (Barbara) and many wonderful great nieces and nephews who loved to hang out with her.
A celebration of Ginnie's life will be held on 9/1/13 in Bodega Bay at 2:30 p.m. at the family's home. Call (916) 803-5253 for more info.
