Walter "Skip" Shaw|
September 29, 1935 - May 13, 2013
Resident of Saratoga
Walter "Skip" Shaw, 77, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2013 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Linda; his two sons, Steve and Eric; daughter-in-law Jennifer; three grandchildren, Ryan, Sarah, and Nathaniel; and his dear cousin Patricia. Skip is also survived by many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews comprising an extended family all near and dear to his heart.
Skip grew up in Paxton, Illinois and graduated from the University of Illinois with a bachelor's in electrical engineering. After college, he took a job at FMC in the Detroit area, just before meeting his wife Linda on a blind date.
After starting their family, he moved to Saratoga, CA in 1972 where he continued to work for FMC in international sales and marketing until he retired in 1997.
In his retirement years, he and Linda continued his international travel, enjoyed many ski vacations with friends, and golfing with his buddies at La Rinconada. He truly treasured his many great friends. He loved sports, especially baseball, listening to Giants games on the radio while working in the yard (with a soft spot for the Cubbies).
Also, Skip devoted his time to helping others, specifically mentoring three foster children through Child Advocates, an organization dear to his heart. He spearheaded and originated an annual golf tournament that continues to raise much needed funds through his tireless efforts.
Skip made friends with everyone he met and with his bright smile, and twinkle in his eyes he would always remember your name.
Skip will be missed by everyone whose life he touched.
A memorial service will be held at Saratoga Federated Church on Tuesday, May 21, at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Walter's name to Child Advocates, 509 Valley Way, Milpitas, CA 95035 or visit www.BeMyAdvocate.org.
