Carlton P. Coombs, age 94, a lifelong resident of Stoneham, died December 9, 2012. He was the husband of the late Carol (Manser) Coombs. Born and raised in Stoneham, he was one of ten children born to the l ate Wilner P. and Hester L. (Atkinson) Coombs. Carlton was a graduate of Stoneham High School in the class of 1936. He was a WWII Army veteran and served in the US Calvary throughout Normandy, Southern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was employed as an air condition and refrigeration technician for L.C. Anderson of Boston until his retirement in 1988. Carlton was a 12th generation descendent of Stephen Hopkins of the Mayflower. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and King Cyrus and Good Samaritan Masonic Lodges. He enjoyed playing golf at Unicorn with his longtime friends and looked forward to attending his high school reunions. Carlton was a loyal donor at the Stoneham Bloodmobile until he was prohibited from giving because of his age. In 2009, he and his son Dana traveled to France with other veterans of the 15th Calvary group and were honored with ceremony in each town they had once helped liberate. He is survived by his two sons, David A. Coombs and his wife Amy of Southborough and Dana M. Coombs and his wife Malene of Lincoln. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Emily, Matthew, Michael, James and Olivia and two sisters Marilyn Savary of Green Valley, AZ and Ruth Haig of Lakewood, CO. Funeral services will be held Sat., Dec. 15th at 10 A.M. in St. James United Methodist Church, 71 Central St., Stoneham, followed by burial in Lindenwood Cemetery with military honors. Visiting hours are Friday, 2-4 P.M . at Anderson-Bryant Funeral Home, 4 Common St., Stoneham.
