Doris H. (Harvey) Salak, 98, of Framingham, died, Tuesday, October 23, 2012 at St. Patrick's Manor, Framingham. She was the wife of the late Otto Salak who died in 1995 and the mother of the late Gordon H. Salak. Born in Cambridge in 1914, she was the daughter of the late Francis B. and Everetta Maria (White) Harvey and the sister of the late Gordon Harvey. She grew up in Belmont and moved to Framingham after marriage. Mrs. Salak was a graduate of Miss Wheelocks's School for Girls. As her family grew, she worked full time teaching while attaining her Masters degree at night from Northeastern University. She then attended Harvard University courses. She worked as an elementary school teacher at Hanscom Air Force Base and retired after many years of teaching at the Holliston Public Schools. Mrs. Salak volunteered as a Grey lady during WWII at the former Cushing Hospital in Framingham, as a pink lady at the Framingham Union Hospital, and with the American Red Cross. In her free time she loved to travel with her husband Otto and the Framingham Kiwanis Club. Mrs. Salak was a member of the Grace Congregational Church Camaliers and the Massachusetts School Psychologists Association. She and Otto were original members of the Framingham Heart Study. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Patrick's Manor for the love and care extended to Doris. She is survived by her children, George 0. Salak of TX, Carol A. Brackett and her husband Paul L. of Framingham. She is also survived by four grandsons, Brian P. Brackett and his wife Paula of Framingham, Scott A. Brackett of Framingham, Sean and Christopher Salak both of TX, and two great-grandchildren, Heather and Blaise Brackett both of Framingham. At the family's request funeral services were private. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Norton Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Beech St., Framingham. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to the .
