Dorothy Evelyn Norwood, aged ninety-one, died peacefully on February 21st, 2014 at Bourne Manor in Bourne, Massachusetts. Born on 16 December 1922, she was anative of Milton, Massachusetts, where she grew up. She had been a summer resident of Monument Beach, Massachusetts, since 1927, and a year-round resident of Framingham, Massachusetts, since 1955. She was predeceased by her parents, Chester Henry Norwood and Hazel Violet Case, and her brother Chester Henry Norwood, Jr. She is survived by her brother, Richard C. Norwood, her nephew Richard C. Norwood Jr., and wife Cynthia, all of Monument Beach, Massachusetts; her niece, Sandra L. Norwood of Santa Cruz, California; a nephew Richard A. Norwood of Haverhill, Massachusetts; nieces, Meridith L. Norwood of Asheville, NC, and Lynn E. Mooney of Charlotte, NC; and a number of great, great, great nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved friend Elizabeth Chipman of Framingham, who has been a great support to her for many years. Dottie was in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. Early in her nursing career, she managed a pioneering study of the effects of aspirin on inflammation and pain and afterward became a Nurse Anaesthetist at Massachusetts General Hospital, retiring in 1987. She pursued many interests, including singing, gardening, sailing, soaring, downhill and cross-country skiing, dog breeding andtraveling. She often said music was her life. She attended the Juliard School of Music and sang with Boston Pro Musica, the Handel and Haydn Society and the Wayland Golden Tones. In her 50s she became very interested in Golden Retrievers, participating in breeding, showing, obediience and field training. During her retirement she derived great pleasure from traveling the world with Harvard University to such places as India, Bhutan and China. In all her activities Dottie made many friends whom she loved and admired and she will be dearly missed by her family and all who Knew her during her long rich life.
