Robert J. Carney, 86, previously of Hudson passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014. Born in Taunton, MA. he was the son of the late Adalaide Bosi and the late James H. Carney. Navel Officer retired WWII. Entered Tufts University in 1947 and was graduated in June of 1950. While at Tufts was a member of Theta Delta Chi, 135 lb Intramural Wrestling Champion, player on Intramural Wrestling teams, and several campus clubs and activities. After graduation was employed by Reed & Barton, and spent 3 years in the silver industry in the sales division. From 1953 - 1964 was with Litton Industries, Worcester, MA branch and was Ass't Branch Mgr in the Monroe Div. and resided in Hudson, MA. In 1964 purchased an Insurance Brokerage and remained with the brokerage until retirement in 1988 He was president of the Hudson Cooperative Bank when merged with the Concord Cooperative Bank, and a Co-Operative Bank Director for 30 years. In 1955 he co-founded the Hudson Little League and was an officer and active participant for 17 years; Treasurer of the L.D. Apsley Fund, Trustee of the the Benevolent Fund of Hudson, Past President of Hudson Rotary Club, member of Elks, American Legion, VFW, Chamber of Commerce and several social and civic groups. Since retirement, traveled extensively touring over 80 countries and was a member of the Cape Cod Curling Club, Falmouth Historical Society. Robert is survived by 4 sons James Carney, of Manchester - by- the- Sea, MA; Stephen Carney, of Mountain view, CA; Charles Carney, of Boston, MA; Paul Carney of Hudson, MA; and six grandchildren.
