John F. Murphy, 67, of Bellingham passed away Tues. Feb. 18, 2014 in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston with his family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Diane L. (Malames) Murphy. H e was born in Cambridge in 1946, the son of the late Charles and Una (Murray) Murphy and was raised in Maynard where he was a graduate of Maynard High School. Mr. Murphy, along with his wife, owned and operated Celtics Adjustments in Bellingham for many years. Later, he worked as an insurance adjuster for USAA Insurance until retiring 2 years ago. He loved to travel which included trips to Miami, cruises, and island getaways. He enjoyed sports including football and coached his sons locally in football, baseball, and basketball. He also played in the Bellingham Over 30 softball league. He was a life-member of the VFW in Bellingham and a member of the Franklin Elks, where he had the honor, as a chosen New England representative Elk, to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns at Arlington National Cemetery on Nov. 10, 2010. He was also a member of the D.A.V. He was a Vietnam War veteran who served in U.S. Air Force. In addition to his wife Diane, he is survived by two sons Sean F. Murphy of Bellingham and Keith N. Murphy of Medford; his siblings Dorothy and her late husband John McDonough of Bourne, Charles and his wife Emily Murphy of Miami, Maryann and her husband Jeff Burek of Scituate, and Steven McDonald of Maynard; 3 grandsons Braedan, Declan, and Benjamin; 3 sister-in-laws Janice Mathews, Frances Gorman, and Eileen Malames; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law Stephen Malames. Visiting hours will be Mon. Feb. 24, 2014 from 5 - 8 PM in the Buma-Sargeant Funeral Home, 42 Congress St., Milford. Funeral services will be held Tues. Feb. 25, 2014 at 9:30 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM in St. Mary's Church, 19 Winter St., Milford. Burial, with full military honors, will follow in the MA National Cemetery, Bourne. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Franklin Elks, Disabled Veterans Fund, P.O. Box 445, Franklin, MA 02038.
