John H. McQuade, 80, formerly of Linwood St. died Wed. June 12 at St. Camillus Nursing Center where he had been a resident the past 4 years. His wife Estelle T. (Labonte) McQuade died in 1977. He is survived by his long-time companion Paulette Howlette of Grafton; his 4 children, Charles F. and his wife Natalie McQuade of Uxbridge, Cheryl A. and her husband John "Jake" Storey of Uxbridge, Karen M. McQuade-Demanche and her husband David of Uxbridge, and Barbara M. Canty and her husband Stephen of Uxbridge; 8 grandchildren and many nephews and nieces. Born in Uxbridge on Feb. 14, 1933 he was the son of Charles F. and Eva L. (Berthieume) McQuade and lived in Linwood since 1969. Mr. McQuade worked for UPS in their Ashland and Shrewsbury offices 26 years until his retirement. Previously he had worked at the former Whitin Machine Works in their shipping department. He was a graduate of the Good Shepherd School in Linwood, Uxbridge High School Class of 1951, and later earned a degree from Becker Jr. College. He was a U.S. Army Korean Conflict veteran serving as a Corporal in Germany. John enjoyed town politics. He loved people and his involvement in politics. He served the Town of Uxbridge as a Selectman and finance committee member. He was a Director for the Uxbridge Council on Aging, a member of the Democratic Town Committee, and the Town Common Memorial Committee. He also served on the Ocean State Power committee. He was a member of the Uxbridge Council knights of Columbus, the Charles A. Rice American Legion. He enjoyed taking short trips with his companion Paulette as well as following his children and grandchildren's sporting events. Always a family man, John will be greatly missed.
