John R. Schaefer Jr. Obituary
John R. Schaefer, Jr., 60, of Bellingham, MA passed away on Wednesday, January 29, 2014. He was the beloved husband for 30 years of Diane E. (Peckham) Schaefer. Born in Pittsfield, MA on April 28, 1953, he was the son of Edna I. (Coty) Schaefer of Pittsfield, MA and the late John R. Schaefer, Sr. He was the loving father of Trisha K. Schaefer of Bellingham, MA and leaves his cherished grandchildren Chase Jay Harper and Brystol Anne Harper. He was the brother of Timothy Schaefer and his wife, Molly of Tyringham, MA, James Schaefer of Lee, MA, David Schaefer and his wife, Diane of Virginia Beach, VA, and Nancy Simonelli and her husband, David of Virginia Beach, VA. John leaves his uncle and aunt, Jack and Mary Coty of Lee, MA and nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. He also leaves his father and mother-in-law, James and Nancy Peckham of Prudence Island, RI. John was a resident of Bellingham for 28 years formerly of Lee, MA where he was raised and a graduate of Lee High School Class of 1971. John worked as a truck driver for Ken's Foods of Marlborough, MA for 10 years and was an inspection machine technician for SPX Corporation for several years. John was a United States Navy Vietnam War Veteran having served on the USS Voge and received the National Defense Service Medal. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, computers and music. John never missed a Velvet Skies event and was a big part of the VS Family. Devoted to his family and friends, John will be greatly missed by all. Visiting hours are on Monday, February 3rd from 5 to 7PM at CARTIER'S FUNERAL HOME, 151 So. Main St. (Rte 126), Bellingham, MA with a Funeral Service at 7PM with Pastor Mark Lukens officiating. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. A reception will follow at the Schaefer residence for family and friends. In lieu of flowers donations to a would be appreciated.
