Milford | Joseph D. Ackerman Jr., 89, of Milford passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Mary (Christo) Ackerman who died in 2012. Mr. Ackerman had been employed as a dispatcher for Dennison Mfg. in Framingham for over 15 years before his retirement. Joseph was born July 11, 1925 in Milford the son of the late Joseph D. and Jennie V. (Kroll) Ackerman Sr. He was a life-long resident of Milford and a graduate of Milford High School. Joseph was a US Army Veteran serving during WW II and was a Purple Heart Recipient. Mr. Ackerman was a long time member of St. Marys Church in Milford and had served as Eucharistic Minister for over 20 years. He also taught CCD for many years. Joseph was a master tomato grower and enjoyed gardening. He enjoyed spending time with his family and was a die-hard Red Sox fan. He cared lovingly for his late wife during the six years prior to her death from Alzheimers. Mr. Ackerman is survived by one son; Paul D. Ackerman of Milford, one brother; James A. Ackerman of Holliston, 4 grandchildren, Teri, Michael, Alden and Evan and 1 great grandchild, Mila. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Ackerman. Visiting hours will be held on Thurs. Aug. 21, 2014 from 4-7 PM in the BUMA SARGEANT FUNERAL HOME, 42 Congress St., Milford. Funeral services will be Fri. Aug. 22, 2014 at 9 AM from the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 AM in St. Marys Church, 19 Winter St., Milford. Burial will follow in St. Marys Cemetery, Cedar St./Rt. 85 Milford. Memorial donations may be made in Mr. Ackermans memory to the , 30 Speen St. Framingham, MA 01701. www.bumafuneralhome. com.
